Yet another win! ORF defeated Beauty and the Geeks 13-10.
It was our typical, slow starting game. We allowed them to outscore us 4-1 before we seemed to get warmed up. Their best strategy appeared to be the long huck, which worked more often than we would've liked. We tried throwing on a zone to see how they'd fare, but they didn't seem to have too much trouble with it. Their not-so-secret weapon and tall guy, Noz, was able to high release with ease right over the top of our cup. Fortunately they didn't have many handlers that could huck, otherwise Noz would've been quite the deep threat. As usual, Vu was a wily one who was hard to break away from on offense and hard to stay close to on defense.
For the second week in a row we seemed to have more drops than normal, but we bucked up and pulled through. A little more than a third of the way through the game Curtis showed up (after taking the long way back from Hallowinona), and that was about the time we started to get our act together. We started recognizing the poaches, starting our cutters closer, and putting more effort into creating space for our women to turn it up since they clearly outmatched our opponent's women. DOB and Heather had a number of great defensive plays during this game.
We were up 11-9 when we agreed to cap the game at 13. At the time it seemed we'd have no problem finishing up before it got too dark, but soon we found ourselves squinting to find the disc. In the darkness we learned that ORF would be going to the semis.
Nik was voted MVP after catching an Adro hammer in the dark by his finger tips, using his bat-like sonar. Muffin was voted runner-up.
