Sunday Pickup
4-9
MVP: Smalls

Our amazing twenty game win streak ended with this windy championship game. My own play was pretty poor much of this game, with several key turnovers including a high release that didn’t get released right, causing our first ever thrown Callahan. We made a lot of mistakes early and their 7-1 lead pretty much wrapped up the game. We came out of this game feeling very frustrated about our own play, but after reviewing the stats, it’s pretty clear that we just didn’t get many chances to come back in this game. Sunday Pickup was an extremely experienced and savvy team.  We made a few dumb little turnovers early on and they capitalized. They simply refused to turn the disc back over to us (the greedy bastards) with 0 turnovers in the first 8 points. The good news is we scored 4 of the last 6 points, and definitely could have made a big come-back if we had enough time.  We played much like the ORF of old, starting very slow and getting better as the game went on.  However, the quick time cap caused that not work out so well.  Smalls won MVP, playing hot the whole game and striking fear into the hearts of anyone unfortunate enough to guard her. MVP of the day as a whole was Aaron Hushagen.  Aaron is the only player on the team to not make a single turnover all day [editor’s note: My bad - Smalls also committed 0 turnovers].  From his humble beginnings in 2002, known for coming to the game late and hungover and possibly straight from jail, Aaron has made huge improvements to his game the last two years.  His speed is very helpful both as a deep threat and as an incredible defender, always ready for the big layout when it’s needed.  He’s also become extremely focused and reliable with the disc.  0 turnovers on such a windy day is quite the impressive feat.
